fire on the mountain

There's a big fire burning in the mountains just outside of Tucson. It's somewhere around 17,000 acres and, in a highly dramatic fashion, is churning its way toward Mt. Bigelow, where many of the city's radio and TV transmitters are stationed, and Summerhaven beyond that, where several hundred homes are nestled as escapes from the heat and bustle of Tucson. At various times over the weekend, plumes of smoke were visible from the high ridges. As the fire has grown and moved up the mountain, the plumes have diffused into a broad haze that circles the foothills. As of yet, there is no estimated containment point.

The local paper put together a diagram of the fire. The Forest Service also has a very informative page on the Bullock Fire, complete with daily-uploaded photos.
