good week?

Episode II and a new rush album in the same week? It's almost too much for this Star Wars-raised, Rush-fan youth to bear. Well, okay, I'm not holding my breath for Attack of the Clones, but the new CD is great.

  1. I have Rush's "Hold Your Fire." How does the new one compare to that?

  2. "Hold Your Fire" and "Vapor Trails" are extremely different, both musically and lyrically. When HYF came out, Rush was deeply into keyboards; guitars are present on the album, but they're mostly for texture and punctuation, and they're largely in the background of the synths. VT on the other hand is full of crunchy, fast, *loud* guitar (recorded in lots and lots of layers). I haven't quite made up my mind about VT, although in general I like it. Some of the sound has had to grow on me. Maybe I'll write up a better review here soon. HYF is actually one of my favorites. I've always liked Prime Mover and High Water quite a bit.
