On the border

Salon is running a story, Vigilante Injustice, about the rise of anti-immigrant border militias here in southern Arizona. Author Max Blumenthal digs into the nasty racist undertones of some of the organizers. On Mexican-American relations, the organizer of the American Patrol says

“If we lose the United States to that cesspool of a culture,” Spencer roars, “how would you like to give 15,000 nuclear weapons to Mexico? It will be the death of this country when hot-blooded, Latin-American macho people bomb the crap out of China or whomever gets in their way—Grijalva [southern Arizona’s outspoken vigilante critic in Congress] back in there with his finger on the nuclear weapon screaming, ‘Let’s get those cucarachas!’”

I don’t know about you, but that’s not exactly the kind of discourse I like to hear from the people who are arming the border. I’ve briefly mentioned this subject before (a previous “Ranch Rescue” operation came close to where Heather worked), and Dave Neiwert at Orcinus has written a great deal of very good material on this subject.
