Sand planet

Someone once commented on the lack of intraplanetary geological diversity in science fiction: Star Wars has Hoth (snow), Tattoine (desert), and Dagobah (swamp); Star Trek has vast landscapes of paper mache and foam; video games don't escape, either, as Phantasy Star's planets Palma, Motavia, and Dezoris demonstrate.

Considering this, I'm beginning to see Tucson in the summertime as a kind of hot desert-planet. "Sand and dust whirlwinds"? Fortunately, we will soon be escaping, for a short time, to planet Strawberry, CA, high in the Sierra Nevada, for a week of napping in the hammock and walking by the river.
