Truth from fiction

The Left Coaster points to Spinsanity's thorough summary of the truths and fictions that have built the road to war. Spinsanity is pretty fair; they note the evidence that Iraq did indeed gas the Kurds in 1988 -- contrary to some claims that Iran, rather than Iraq, did so -- and that the realities of the oil market makes it difficult to argue that this is a "war for oil" (note that the same realities of the oil market also make drilling in ANWR to reduce "dependence on foreign oil" an untenable claim).

Spinsanity also documents altogether too many instances of the Bush administration dissembling or lying outright about the evidence against Iraq and the reasons to abandon the U.N.

From the economy to the environment to foreign policy, the Bush administration has never really let truth get in its way.
